About Folk & Thread

Here's to the generations of folk and family who taught us how to go to sleep. Bedtime is a ritual. Stories, songs and soothing techniques are the thread passed from parent to child through generation after generation.

We celebrate those folk stories. We believe in giving parents bedding that is safe, that is reliably great quality wash after wash, child after child, and that does a bit of good for planet. Create your own bedtime ritual and pass it on to your children and their children.

About The Better sleep project

Every purchase from Folk & Thread funds a donation programme which gives safe baby bedding to families who need it. There are over 125,000 children living in temporary and unsuitable housing in the UK today - through the Better Sleep Project we will put safe baby sleep bags and safe sleep guidance directly into the hands of those parents, supporting them to create a safe nursery environment and reduce the risk of SIDS.

Sleep better, knowing you are helping a baby in need to sleep safer.

The Better Sleep Project is delivered in partnership with our friends The Lullaby Trust.

Care Instructions

Wash at 40°, tumble dry on low

Make sure that your baby sleep bag is turned inside out and is fully zipped and poppered before putting in the washing machine- ideally with the zipper safely under the zip guard. This means the zipper head will be protected from the washing machine drum.

You can use a 40° machine wash or hand wash for all Folk & Thread products. It’s not necessary to wash baby products at a higher heat with modern washing detergents.

We do not recommend fabric conditioner for our products.

The best and most ecologically friendly way to dry your baby products is of course to let them dry on the washing line. However, that’s not always possible, so you can use an airer indoors in a warm, ventilated room. Just unzip the baby sleep bag and lay or hang it open.

It’s a good idea to turn the product during drying to ensure that both the lining, filling and outer fabrics are thoroughly dry before using again.

You can also tumble dry your products if you’re in a hurry, but please use a low setting to prevent damage to the fabric or the components of the product.

Do not iron 2.5 tog baby sleeping bags with wadded filling as the heat will change the structure and thermo properties of the filling. Our 0.5 and 1 tog sleeping bags can be ironed on a low heat avoiding the zipper and poppers.

FAQs

What is the baby sleep bag made from?

Everything we make is from organic cotton. Having worked in the textile industry for so long this was a no brainer for us!

  • It is free from toxic chemicals, so is kinder to sensitive baby skin
  • Our farmers use natural methods to grow cotton rather than fossil-fuel based fertilisers. This creates healthy soil which stores carbon and combats climate change
  • Organic farmers use crop rotation and other skills to control pests and disease. Non-organic farming uses hazardous synthetic pesticides which can damage ecosystems and endanger workers
  • Drinking water, rivers and lakes don't suffer from harmful run-off of toxic chemicals, so it's better for local people
  • Organic cotton is always grown alongside other crops, allowing farmers to diversify to earn a better living and feed their families from their land

2.5 tog baby sleep bags are lined with a layer of squidgeriffic polyester wadding. It's soft and snuggly, keeps its shape wash after wash and dries quickly.

What size baby sleep bag should I buy?

0-3m suitable for babies up to 62cm long, weight - 3.2kg-6.1kg/7lbs-13.4lbs

3-18m suitable for babies 62cm-86cm tall, weight - 6.1kg-11.3kg/13.4lbs-25lb

18-36m suitable for babies 86cm-98cm tall, weight -11.3kg/25lbs

Why use a baby sleep bag?

Baby Sleep Bags are recommended because they make bedtime simpler!

  • Parent problem: Baby kicks off their blankets
Sleep bag solution: A baby sleep bag is designed for your babies shape and size and can't be kicked off, so they stay comfortable all night long
  • Parent problem: Baby could slip down under a blanket and suffocate
Sleep bag solution: Our baby sleep bags are carefully designed with baby weight and head size ratios in mind. The neck openings are sized so that baby can't slip down inside or cover their face with their bedding
  • Parent problem: I don't want my baby to overheat, but I'm not sure what to dress them in for sleep
Sleep bag solution: Follow our simple what to wear guide and take all the guess work out of baby bedding. The tog rating is lab tested and makes it easy to know what your baby should wear to be comfortable, cosy and not too hot
  • Parent problem: My baby struggles to settle after a feed or in an unfamiliar environment
Sleep bag solution: Using a baby sleep bag gives a consistent bedtime experience. Whether it's going back into bed after a feed or settling in a travel cot keeping them in their baby sleep bag ensures they stay cosy and get the cue that it's time to nod off

reviews from our product tester Mums

Liked the position of the zip – didn’t get in the way of breastfeeding , loads of room for breast feeding and washed really well

Emma

The sleeping bag has been great. It fits well, it’s easy to get on and off. The zip design is good as you can change a nappy without having to take the baby fully out of the sleeping bag

Lucinda

Washed and dried over and over and still looks like new.

I like that you don’t have to unzip fully so stays warm when nappy changes

Luci

Sleeping bag is fantastic and the optional reduced length was a great idea
