TOG GUIDE

As summers get warmer, more parents are turning to the 0.5 tog for those long, hot months, and not just for holidays. Babies love routine and consistency, so if you’re travelling, keeping their familiar baby sleep bag as part of the bedtime routine can help them feel secure in new surroundings. Our 0.5 tog sleep bags are made from a single layer of crisp, woven cotton. This fabric is soft but sturdy, keeping its shape and resisting shrinkage, unlike more open fabrics like muslin. It also dries quickly, making it ideal for warm weather.

When the weather warms up, our 1.0 tog is the perfect lightweight choice. This tog is a favourite among parents who prefer bedding with no polyester content at all. Some parents even use the 1.0 tog year-round if their baby’s room stays above 20°C. We use the same organic knitted jersey for the outer fabric to keep things soft, safe, and cosy.

This is the most common tog rating for baby sleep bags, and it’s ideal for most of the year in the UK. A 2.5 tog baby sleep bag with appropriate clothing can keep your baby cosy on a chilly winter night or work just as well in the cooler months of spring and autumn. At Folk & Thread, our 2.5 tog sleep bags are crafted from an outer fabric, a filling, and a lining. We use organic knitted jersey for the outer fabric, which stays soft even after countless washes. The filling is polyester, which is reliable and consistent in maintaining tog levels, especially after many uses. While we’d love to use a fully sustainable fibre for the filling, we’re committed to safety and quality, and we haven’t yet found a fibre that provides consistent results over time.
