The better sleep project

Every baby deserves a safe place to sleep

Doing good has been at the heart of what we do from day one. The Better Sleep Project is our way of sharing 25 years of sleep safety expertise with as many families as possible. With every purchase, you’re helping to fund donations of essential baby bedding, safer sleep guidance, and offering a little extra reassurance to families who need it most.

Where it all began

In our first year, we partnered with The Lullaby Trust to donate over 1,200 safer sleep items through their Bedding Bundle project. It was the start of something bigger — a commitment to making safe sleep possible for more families, wherever and however we can.

With over 125,000 children currently living in unsuitable housing, our goal is simple: to support vulnerable families by providing safe, comfortable sleep spaces for their babies.

OUR PARTNERS

In partnership with The Lullaby Trust

We’re honoured to work closely with The Lullaby Trust, a charity that has been saving babies' lives through safer sleep guidance for over 50 years. Our founders have a long-standing relationship with the Trust, having previously collaborated on pioneering sleep safety initiatives. Together, we’re ensuring that more families can access life-saving advice and safer sleep products,

The Lullaby Trust

“We're delighted to welcome Folk & Thread as our new supporting partner, including the founders who we worked in partnership for many years with at The Gro Company. Safer sleep saves babies’ lives and it is fantastic to be able to work with a company that shares our dedication to promoting this life-saving advice, to as many families as possible. They also share our commitment to helping some of the most vulnerable families and we couldn’t be more grateful for their donation of 1,200 safer sleep items towards our Bedtime Bundles scheme, to support families in temporary accommodation.”

Jenny Ward, CEO of The Lullaby Trust

This year’s project:
Donate a sleep bag

In 2025, the Better Sleep Project is partnering with Baby Basics UK to launch our Donate a Sleep Bag initiative. Every year, thousands of gently used baby items end up in landfills or incineration, including sleep bags that could safely keep another baby warm at night. We’re changing that. Through this programme, families can send us pre-loved sleep bags (any brand, up to 36 months). Each one is safety-checked by our experts to the same rigorous standards we apply to our own products. Approved bags are bundled with safer sleep guidance and a room thermometer, then passed on to families in need through Baby Basics’ network of local centres. It’s a simple way of giving a second life to something you no longer need; helping another baby sleep safely tonight, while reducing waste and supporting families facing real hardship.

Looking ahead

The Better Sleep Project grows each year as we find new ways to share safer sleep with families who need it most. From our beginnings with The Lullaby Trust to this year’s work with Baby Basics, and the partnerships still to come, every purchase plays a part. By choosing Folk & Thread for your baby, you’re also helping families in need and ensuring more little ones have a safe, comfortable place to sleep. Together, we’re making a difference, one cosy night at a time.

OUR IMPACT

Thank you so much for our baby bundle. My baby was delivered early while we were still sofa surfing. The bundle helped us when we were discharged from the hospital, giving our little girl a safe place to sleep until her cot arrived.

Family recipient

The family I supported were a first-time mum and baby who had fled domestic abuse. The crib and blankets from the bundle gave the baby a safe place to sleep, and the mum felt she was doing her best for her child. Thank you so much for making such a difference.

Social worker

The family are in temporary accommodation with the baby sleeping in a pram, which was far too small for her. They were delighted with their bedtime bundle.

Social worker

Mum was so happy to be successful in her application for a bedtime bundle - she’s soexcited to use it when the baby arrives in 2 weeks and appreciates she can now promote safer sleep. Thank you so much.
